The Rafters

Corrections

If a number here is wrong, we say so.

Every stat we print is meant to be checkable against a box score or a season record. When we get one wrong, the fix is a dated correction note at the foot of the piece, in plain language, and a one-line mention in the next Dispatch. We do not quietly edit and move on.

Where a number is an estimate rather than a record, we label it. The Tape adjusts scoring to a modern league average and says so on the page; rebounds and assists are printed as they were recorded.

If last night’s scores are missing from the data we use, the Dispatch runs history-first with the line “Scores are missing this morning; we won’t print numbers we can’t check.” We would rather be short than wrong.
